ANIMAL TRADING

Chair: KAMRYN SINGH
Co-Chair: JOSHUA GAFFIN & NORAH NAKATANI
CRISIS EXPERT: AMBER HUSSAIN

This animal trading committee is focusing on illegal animal trading. Illegal animal trading started recently, in 1973, with the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species, or CITIES. It manages the trade of over 5,000 species of plants and animals with 3 appendixes. This committee is mainly going to focus on the species in Appendix I (an example is all 8 species of pangolins) because the trade of these animals is completely illegal. This issue is serious and important because the illegal killing of these animals puts their lives and humankind in jeopardy. Due to animal trading, there have been increases in new zoonotic diseases, such as COVID-19, and the collapse of ecosystems worldwide. The mission for delegates is to compromise as a world community to make a worldwide plan to decrease illegal animal trading.
