About Us

Going on fifteen years, Model United Nations club at Lab High School for Collaborative Studies hone their public speaking, research, and leadership skills by chairing committees or participating as delegates. Student-run lessons, mock debates, and conference preparation comprise weekly meetings, and serve as exercises to further prepare club members for Model UN life.
At Lab, it doesn’t matter what level experience you have with international affairs, parliamentary procedure, or debating. Members range from veteran MUNers with several years of experience to those who have just recognized their interest in foreign affairs. Club members are encouraged to push themselves out of their comfort zone and achieve success, whatever that may mean to you.
Mr. Shawn Rubel is the faculty advisor for LabMUN, and has been for most of the club’s existence. He has contributed to LabMUN countless times over the past decade, giving up his weekends to chaperone conferences, in New York City and abroad, and allowing LABMUNC the use of his classroom for weekly meetings. Among numerous other generosities, the most important act he has given to the club is a friendly and stern reminder--
Model United Nations is not about winning a certificate or award, it’s about using the skills you've polished in club, and putting forth all of your effort into having an experience that will change you for the better.
